Activities & Events
Healthy Waterways Waterwatch Program runs activities and events to help you find out more about your local river, creek or wetland. Whether it's an information night about platypus, school holiday program, discovery bike ride along the creek or a catch-a-carp day, there's sure to be an event for you.
We work in partnership with local government and you will often find us with the Healthy Waterways Waterwatch Trailer at community festivals across Melbourne, where you have the opportunity to catch live water bugs and talk to scientists about the health of your local rivers and creeks.

Meet at the Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve (parking available outside the reserve). You will be picked up and dropped off here from the bus. Come along on this exciting bus trip on National Threatened Species Day to two sites in Whittlesea. These sites are home to local endangered species that live near our waterways. This tour is suitable for adults and children. There will be short walks on the day. Lunch will be provided. Bookings essential.

Discover and reconnect with your local environment!
Melbourne Water & Yarra Ranges Council invites you to join your community an afternoon discovering and reconnecting with your local environment. This event will begin with a light lunch and presentation at the Lilydale Lake, before boarding a bus to learn about the Little Stringybark Creek Project, Raingardens, local birds, frogs and creek ecology. We will participate in a Waterwatch demonstration in Healesville highlighting water monitoring and waterway animals.

We will be riding from Robinsons Reserve, downstream along the Merri Creek, stopping at wetlands where we will discover waterbugs, frogs and other wetland creatures along the way.
We will finish the bike ride at Merri Park wetlands. If you would like to stay for lunch after please BYO food. The ride will be about 4km and this is a family friendly event.

We will be riding from the Whittlesea City Public Gardens, across the Hume Fwy via the footbridge to Galada Tamboore, where we will ride along the new path adjacent to the Merri Creek, heading downstream.
We will test the water; discover creatures and landscapes along the way before returning to the Whittlesea City Public Gardens. If you would like to stay for lunch after please BYO food. Come and join Waterwatch, Council staff and Parks Victoria on our National Threatened Species Day Bus tour. This year we are going to focus on birds- aquatic and birds of prey, in the amazing Morang wetlands that is home to an amazing array of birdlife, many species that are rare or threatened are found here. This tour is suitable for adults and older children. There will be short walks on the day. Lunch will be provided. A bus will pick up and drop off participants from the Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve (parking available outside the reserve). You will be picked up and dropped off here from the bus.

Join the Darebin Creek Froggers, Darebin Creek Management Committee and Waterwatch for a bike ride along the Darebin Creek. Ride your bike from the Norris Banks Reserve in Bundoora, heading north along the Darebin Creek up to an amazing frog habitat in Thomastown East, then return. This easy 10 km ride will stop along the way to look for waterbugs and frogs and test salt, temperature, turbidity and pH levels of the Darebin Creek.
