Maribyrnong Catchment

The Maribyrnong Catchment covers an area of approximately 1430 square kilometres and yields an average annual flow of 120,000 million litres. The following waterways are included in the Waterwatch Maribyrnong region:

The Maribyrnong River has two main branches - Deep Creek and Jackson’s Creek. Both are fed by a number of major tributaries including Riddell’s Creek, Boyd Creek and Konagaderra Creek. These creeks tend to be deeply incised, exhibit a high variability in flow and are subject to extended periods of low flow.

Healthy Waterways Waterwatch Monitors in the Maribyrnong Catchment

Most community participation in the Maribyrnong catchment involves ‘Friends of’ and Landcare groups. These groups work as volunteers and do an outstanding job at a variety of projects to protect and enhance the waterways of the region
